A Moritory creator guide

Can AI commentary Shorts
earn money on YouTube?

Original commentary can be a path toward creator income. Understand what your work needs to add, how eligibility and review work, and why your own results matter more than a promised RPM.

Original commentary can be eligible.

YouTube permits monetization for commentary that adds meaningful story, analysis or educational value, subject to its channel review. Simple reposts, minimally changed clips and repetitive output can fail reused-content or inauthentic-content review. Captioning a clip or changing its voice alone does not establish originality. Read YouTube’s channel monetization policies.

Your angle makes the difference. Explain why a detail matters, connect it to verified context or give the audience an observation they would miss from the footage alone. Choose and edit pictures to support the point.

Human review belongs in the workflow. Moritory can handle narration, scene editing and finishing steps. You verify the research, choose the source moments and approve the complete Short.

Footage rights are a separate responsibility.

Permission to use a clip and YouTube’s reused-content assessment are different questions. Check rights for footage, music and voices; a supported download or text-cleanup tool grants no rights. Preserve required attribution and avoid edits that mislead viewers.

You can build a channel without showing your face.

YouTube’s monetization criteria focus on the content and channel, rather than requiring you to appear on camera. A faceless format still needs an original story, meaningful editing and a clear contribution.

AI assistance can help research, write or produce a video. Disclose realistic, meaningful synthetic alterations when YouTube requires it; ordinary script assistance or captions generally do not need that disclosure. Disclosure itself does not remove earning eligibility. Check YouTube’s altered-content guidance.

Use a voice you are authorized to use and inspect generated narration. Ask whether the video tells a useful story clearly, with evidence viewers can trust.

YPP is an eligibility and review process.

As reviewed on 9 October 2026, the full YouTube Partner Program entry routes include 1,000 subscribers plus 10 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days, or 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 qualified public long-form watch hours in 12 months. Eligibility also involves account, country and policy requirements, followed by channel review. Shorts Feed watch hours do not count toward the long-form route. Confirm the current YPP requirements.

Subscribers alone are not an earnings prediction. Acceptance into the program and the eligibility of your content still matter. Check the Earn area in YouTube Studio for your channel’s available routes and terms.

Announced change from 1 February 2027: YouTube says monthly eligibility for pooled Shorts ad and Premium revenue will require at least 10 million qualified Shorts views in the preceding 90 days, with a defined monthly measurement window. Updated YPP terms also require attention in YouTube Studio. Read the official Shorts revenue policy before planning around future earnings.

Understand RPM before forecasting income.

For Shorts, RPM measures revenue per 1,000 engaged views. It reflects your actual revenue after YouTube’s share and can include multiple revenue sources. CPM measures advertiser spending and is not your take-home rate. Audience geography, ad demand and monetized activity affect results. Understand YouTube revenue analytics.

Moritory does not set advertising prices or promise a high RPM. Use your own channel analytics to understand which stories attract the audience you want and whether the production time is worthwhile.

A researched process for improving your work.

Our scripting workflow organizes research, story structure, footage planning and review. YouTube describes viewer choice, viewing depth and satisfaction among discovery signals, without a required upload schedule or a guaranteed formula. See YouTube’s Shorts discovery guidance.

Review the hook, pacing and payoff against actual audience response. Optional vidIQ research can support topic and packaging decisions. Give every new video a substantive reason to exist.

What “passive income” means for a creator.

A video may continue earning after publication when it remains eligible and continues attracting viewers. Creating the video still takes research, footage decisions, editing and review. Revenue can change, and keeping the channel healthy takes ongoing work.

A repeatable production process helps you spend effort where it has value. It does not make revenue automatic. Plan around the time, tools and quality checks you can sustain, then measure the outcome.

Moritory Premium is $9 USD per month, with no Moritory per-video credits or export quotas while active. Your own ChatGPT plan, optional vidIQ subscription, computer, storage and production time are separate considerations. See the full pricing context.

A one-week test from our own workflow.

The owner reports a one-week test on an existing YPP channel with about 4,000 subscribers: one commentary Short published per day and $1 or more in daily channel revenue. We keep the channel name and URL private.

This reports one channel’s experience over a short period. It does not isolate the revenue from each new upload, prove that a new channel will qualify for YPP, or establish a future minimum. Views, audience, the existing catalogue and policy eligibility can affect the result.

Use a small production experiment of your own to understand the workload and audience response before relying on creator income.

Quality checks before you publish.

  • Original contribution: the story adds analysis, explanation or context.
  • Factual support: sources and narration agree; speculation is clearly labeled.
  • Footage and voice rights: your use has the permissions it requires.
  • Picture and sound: captions are readable, cleanup is reviewed, and music supports the voice.
  • Viewer experience: the opening is clear, the ending delivers and the replay feels intentional.
  • Platform requirements: review current YPP, advertiser and disclosure rules.

These checks improve your review process; YouTube makes the monetization decision. Explore the Moritory commentary workflow to see where each check fits.
